Impossibly beautiful - you'll see pelicans and (if you're lucky) rays on the boat ramp here
Kiama's farmers market happens each Wednesday (weather permitting) just behind the Surf Beach. The Mexican food truck is excellent. Combine that with a cold beer from Five Barrels Brewery and a sea view. Hard to beat!
Kiama's Sunday market happens on the third Sunday of every month.
Minnamurra lagoon. The ultimate wild swimming spot.. dry off on the grass with a coffee from the nearby Minnamurra Coffee Shop.
After you've picked up your complementary coffee from the awesome Manning Street Local, have a wander around the coast.. this is Black Beach cove at the end of Manning Street.
Sunday Sippers happens each Sunday at the Surf Lifesavers Club from 3pm. Highlights include awesome volunteer staff, awesome views, cheap booze, live music and BYO snacks. This is a bit of a local's secret so keep it under your hat.
Kiama's very excellent fish market is back! After a 6-month hiatus, Ruth and Steve are back and everyone is delighted to see them again. Grab a kilo of prawns and head opposite to one of the picnic tables for an unforgettable lunch. Bring hand wipes and a cold beer.
The view from the terrace at the Surf Lifesavers club. It's a bit of a stretch but it's as close to a beach bar as you'll find in this neck of the woods.
Kiama has picnic tables dotted around the coast to ensure that you're lunchtime snack comes with a generous serving of awesome.
Pick your favourite spot for coffee, cake and a view. There's plenty of choice.
Every corner you turn will have you reaching for your camera..
Minnamurra Reserve on another day.
Kiama Lighthouse, built in 1887, was constructed to guide ships along Australia's southeastern coast. It replaced an earlier beacon and underwent several restorations, serving as a vital maritime navigation point.
It's hard not to take the same picture every day. It's just so nice!
There aren't many chip shops left in Australia that make chips by peeling potatoes (rather than opening a plastic bag of pre-prepared things). But Gemfish at the other end of Manning Street is one of the few. You'll need to supply your own chip-shop style mushy peas and malt vinegar for a proper Chippy dinner.
The steps down into Minnamurra lagoon. It's pretty shallow so great for everyone. Check the tide times and time your run for high tide for the best swim experience.
The coastal walk North to Minnamurra is excellent. Not too strenuous (there's one decent climb), aim for the Kiama Golf Club for a refreshing drink before heading back.
For a change of pace, head to the Mountain Ridge vineyard. Rind ahead to reserve a table. On a day like this, the outdoor tables are at a premium. The food is great with an in-house pizza oven.
What to expect if you go to Mountain Ridge Wines when the sun has got it's hat on!
Oak Flats 50m Pool. If you're looking to crash out a few Kms then Oak Flats is the nearest 50m Pool. It's either super-busy (with parties) or empty. Budget for a 15 minute drive to get there. Free parking.
Another spot for a picnic.. this time close to the Kiama Fishmongers (pick up a Kg of prawns) so you can have a seafood picnic after a dip in the Blowhole Rockpool. Winner!
